The 1987 Fiesta Bowl pitted two undefeated teams, the #2 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions and the #1 ranked Miami Hurricanes, in a contest dubbed "The Game of the Century." The danger of such hype is that the actual game can be a letdown, but this game did not disappoint. It was a battle of two talented defenses, but in the end it was the five interceptions of Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde by Nittany Lion defenders that saved the day. More than 52 million people viewed this historic game, which is still the most watched college football game of all time.

Penn State's star players included RB D.J. Dozier, LB Shane Conlan, OT Tim Johnson and DT Tim Johnson, while Miami and coach Jimmy Johnson countered with QB Vinny Testaverde, WR Michael Irvin and DL Jerome Brown.
