Texas vs. Notre Dame 1978 Cotton Bowl - Joe Montana vs. #1 Texas & Earl Campbell

Notre Dame dominates the 1978 Cotton Bowl game, as they leapfrog from number five in the polls to become the national champions after this impressive victory.

Undefeated Texas enters the game ranked number one in the country, led by Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell. Notre Dame turned down many bowl invitations to face the Longhorns for a chance at winning the national championship. Notre Dame’s two top rushers, Jerome Heavens and Vagas Ferguson, complement future NFL legend Joe Montana’s passing game.

This vintage game is a treasure for all football fans, as it also contains pre-game and post-game segments that will immerse you in the feeling of a past era. The pre-game consists of nine minutes of starting lineup introductions by broadcaster Don Criqui, as the players run through a gauntlet of fans lined up on the field. An on-field interview with Notre Dame head coach Dan Devine wraps up the broadcast as he makes his case for Notre Dame to be voted national champions.

This is a professional version of the original broadcast, commercial free. Running time is 2 hours 35 minutes. You’ll see these legendary players: Earl Campbell, Joe Montana, Ken MacAfee, Ross Browner and watch coaches Dan Devine and Fred Akers battle it out.
